(Abstract)
The purpose of this thesis is to aims the ciassification and description of Coleoptera fossils among the insect fossil fauna from the Jinju Fomation(the Lower Cretaceous) of Sindong Group in Gyeongsang Basin, Korea. The result of study is as follows; 265 Coleoptera fossils from 10 locality were classified into 18 family (Cupedidae, Carabidae, Triaplidae, Coptoclavidae, Staphylinidae, Scarabaeidae, Buprestidae, Elateridae, Nitidulidae, Tenebrionidae, Mordellidae, Cerambycidae, Chrysomelidae, Curculionidae, Geotrupidae, Harpalidae, Aphodiidae, Psephenidae) belonging order Coleoptera Linne, 1758. And the most of them were considered new species. Of the specimens, the body were most preserved and the size varied between 3.0mm and 29mm in length.
The fossils were associated with the fishe, ostracods, estheriids and plant fossils mainly in the black shale. This can be explained as the rare oxigen free sedimentary environment of lacustrine were evident at the time
The analysis on the order coleoptera fossils of the Cretaceous period is the very first in Korea, This analysis will be the basis for the study of evolutionary systems of paleontology and biology.
