십장생도의 이미지를 차용한 이상세계의 표현에 관한 연구 : 연구자의 작품을 중심으로 = A Study on the Expression of the Ideal World Using the Image of Ten Longevity Symbols Painting

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 ‘신낙원(新樂園)’을 테마로 하여 석사학위청구전(2022년 9월 21일∼9월 26일)에 전시하였던 연구자의 작품을 “십장생도의 이미지를 차용한 이상세계의 표현”이라는 주제로 분석 연구한 결과이다.
과거에는 질병 없이 오래 사는 무병장수(無病長壽)가 모든 사람들의 맹목적인 바람이었다면 현대에는 백세시대라 불릴 만큼 인간의 평균수명이 늘어나고 장수의 보편화가 이루어지는 시대로 변모하였다. 늘어난 수명만큼 건강한 삶과 장수의 가치가 더 중요한 시대가 되었다. 십장생도는 불로장생을 바라는 소망과 염원이 담긴 길상화이며 이상향의 세계에서 살고자 하는 인간의 욕망이 담겨져 있는 그림이다.
본 연구에서는 십장생도 소재의 이미지와 상징성이 연구자의 이상세계, 작품에 어떻게 반영되고 표현되었는지를 연구 분석하였다. 연구자의 작품 인 ‘낙원 시리즈’에 담긴 이야기와 표현 방식이 어떻게 표출 되었는지에 초점을 두어 주제와 조형성을 분석하였다.
연구자는 본 논문을 통해 과거와 현대인이 지향하는 이상세계의 의미와 가치가 변모됨을 알 수 있었고, 현대에 와서는 점점 작지만 진정한 행복을 꿈꾼다는 것도 인식하였다. 그리하여 본 연구에서는 십장생도의 개념과 연원에 대한 학문적 이론과 연구 성과를 살펴보았으며, 공간구성의 표현형식과 유형별 특징을 대표적인 도판과 표로 분석, 정리하였다. 또한 십장생도의 소재가 가지고 있는 의미와 상징성을 바탕으로 도상적 형태와 조형성을 연구 분석하였다.
십장생도의 현대적 해석을 통해 십장생도의 모티브로 작업하는 현대 작가들의 작품 경향에 대해 검토하였고, 아울러 민화가 현대미술과 어떻게 융합되고 나아가야 할지에 대해서도 살펴보았다.
화려면서도 섬세한 묘사와 장중한 구도의 조형성을 지닌 궁중양식의 병풍과 궁중양식에서 민간양식으로 변모하는 과정을 살필 수 있는 분폭(分幅)의 병풍형식을 모사(模寫)의 대상으로 선정하여 모사의 과정과 모사작이 주는 의미에 대해서도 인식을 새롭게 하였다. 모사는 앞 시기 화가들의 회화양식을 체득하는 기회이자 창작을 위한 밑바탕이 되는 중요한 학습 과정임을 알 수 있었다.
연구자는 본 논문을 통하여 우리 민화의 주요 주제인 십장생도의 전통을 돌아보고, 십장생도에 깃든 해학미와 전통미 등 다양한 미적 요소들을 현대적으로 해석하고 창의적으로 표현할 수 있는 기반이 되도록 하는데 목적을 두었다. 더 나아가 21세기 민화가 지향해야 할 예술적 가치와 현대미술로서의 새로운 창작세계를 지속적으로 고민하고 전망하면서 민화의 계승과 발전에 많은 기여가 될 수 있도록 하였다.

A Study on the Expression of the Ideal World Using the Image of Ten Longevity Symbols Painting

This study focused on researcher’s work under the theme of “Expressing the Ideal World Using the Image of Ten Longevity Symbols Painting”. The work was exhibited at the Master’s Degree Exhibition
(September 21-26, 2022) with the theme ‘New Paradise’.
If disease-free longevity was the blind desire of everyone in the past, it has been transformed into an era where the average life expectancy of humans is increased. Also longevity is universalized enough to be called the 'Hundred Years' Age. It has become an era which the value of a healthy life and longevity are more important as the life span extended.
Ten Longevity Symbols Painting is a picture of good fortune that contains the desire for eternal life, and is a painting that contains human desire to live in a world of utopia.
In this study, the researcher studied and analyzed how the images and symbolism of the Ten Longevity Symbols Painting were reflected and expressed in the researcher's work. Then analyzed the theme and formality by focusing on the researcher's story and expression methods in the Paradise Series.
Through this study, the researcher learned that the meaning and value of the ideal world that people aim, transformed from the past and modern, and recognized that in modern times, they gradually dream of small but true happiness in their daily lives. Therefore, in this study, academic theories and research achievements on the concept and origin
of the Ten Longevity Symbols Painting were researched, and the expression form of spatial composition and chacteristics of each types were analyzed and summarized in representative plates and tables. In addition, based on the meaning and symbolism of the Ten Longevity Symbols Painting, the iconographic form and formality were studied and
analyzed.
Through the modern interpretation of Ten Longevity Symbols Painting, the researcher reviewed the trends of modern artists working with the motif of Ten Longevity Symbols Painting, and also examined how Minhwa should be fused with modern art.
A royal folding screen with delicate description and formality of a solemn composition was selected as the objects of imitation. Also a folding screen type that can examine the process of transformation from the royal style to the civilian style, were selected too. The researcher renewed the process of imitation and the meaning of imitation work. The
researcher could learn that imitation is an opportunity to learn the painting style of artists in the previous period, and an important learning process that underlies creation.
Through this study, the researcher looked back on the tradition of Ten Longevity Symbols Painting, the main theme of Minhwa. It also aimed to provide a basis for modern interpretation and creative expression of various aesthetic elements, such as the beauty of humor and the traditional beauty, in the painting. Furthermore, the researcher
let this study to contribute a lot to the succession and development of Minhwa by continuously considering and predicting the artistic value that Minhwa in the 21st century should pursue, and also the new creative world as modern art.
