Smartphone has brought the changes in politics, economy and culture in our society. In academia, the positive and negative effects of smartphone has been studied, also. However, the empirical research about smartphone's effects on interpersonal communication and social connectedness has been limited. Based on the integrated model of behavior prediction by Ajzen & Fishbein, this
study explores the effect of smartphone continuous use intention on interpersonal communication and social connectedness. Through online and offline survey with college students, this study tests the variables like subjective norm, smartphone attitude, and smartphone literacy (self-efficacy), also. Results from structural equation modeling analysis revealed that subjective norm, smartphone attitude, and smartphone literacy showed positive effects on smartphone continuous use intention as the integrated model had suggested. The positive relationships among smartphone continuous use intention,
interpersonal communication and social connectedness were found, also. This means that the more people use smartphone the more communicate with family and friends, and the more feel connected socially. Despite the limitation of the research sample using college students, the study contributes to an expansion of the integrated model of behavior prediction by applying it to interpersonal
communication and social connectedness areas.
