The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of elementary and middle school students psychological variables and parents' affectionate attitudes on positive friendship.
The subjects were total 552 of elementary school students of 6th grade from two school and middle school students of first grade and second grade from three school in Pusan (256 boys and 256 girls).
Collected date were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program. For data analysis, Cronbach's α, Frequencies, T-test, Multiple regression, Pearson correlation coefficients were used.
The major finding of this study were as follow;
First, there was grade difference in parents' affectionate attitudes, self-efficacy and initiative. Elementary school students reported higher levels of parents' affectionate attitudes, self-efficacy and initiative than middle school students did. And also there was gender difference in elementary and middle school students' positive friendship. Female students reported higher levels of positive friendship than male students did.
Second, there are grade and gender difference in the effects of elementary and middle school students psychological variables and parents' affectionate attitudes on positive friendship. Positive Friendship was directly effected elementary and middle school students' self-esteem and leadership except male middle school students. In case of male middle school students, parents' affectionate attitudes and self-esteem effected directly positive friendship.
This study gives more understanding of elementary and middle school students' Positive Friendship through examination perceiving parents' affectionate attitudes and elementary and middle school students' self-esteem, self-efficacy and initiative as psychological variables. And also give examination of the route to variables affecting elementary and middle school students' for each gender and grade of elementary and middle school students'.
