      The statistical characteristics of heavy rainfall occurred in Honam area were revealed in this study. Data used in this study are precipitation and synoptic data observed at sixteen site in Honam area during recent thirty years
      The number of observed heavy rainfall is 944 for thirty years. The frequency of heavy rainfall event is relatively high from June to September and the highest frequency and strong intensity of heavy rainfall are can be seen at August.
      Pressure pattern at heavy rainfall event can be divided into low pressure type, Jangma front type, mT border type, trough type, and heavy rain by Typhoon, and heavy rain fall event due to Jangma front type is often occurred in this area. The number of occurrence of heavy rainfall is 291, 209, 217,180 and 47 by Jangma front type, Typhoon, low pressure type, trough type, and mT border type, respectively. Therefore the reasons of most part of heavy rainfall occurred in Honam area are the existence of Jangma front, typhoon, and trough.
