시대별 흐름을 통해 본 한국 대중음악 발라드 드럼 필의 변천사

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The objective of this study was to classify Korean popular music ballads according to the current of times, and then examine ballad drum fills based on the current of times, thus finding out the present status and future directivity of drum fills.
For this, this study analyzed the flow of popular music according to the history of Korean popular music, classified the times based on main events occurred and the style of music popularized at that times, and then analyzed songs which presented important features of the times focusing on drum fills.
Study findings are as follows:
The genre of ballad was introduced in Korean popular music in the 1980s, and from that time on ballad drum fills have been gradually sub-divided/applied/complicated according to the current of times, thus currently resulting in the appearance of simple ballad drum fills which are reverting back to the style of the past, together with the phenomenon of reduction of actual performance according to the change of record industry and the development of MIDI.
Based on study findings, drummers must understand the flow of ballad drum fills according to the change of times, and then attempt to establish drum home recording environment and produce appropriate drum fill samples.
The author hopes study findings will provide help to musicians and younger students who are working hard on researches and exercises in order to prepare for radically changing times.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 한국 대중가요 발라드를 시대별로 분류하고, 시대별 분류에 따른 발라드 드럼 필을 분석하여 현재 발라드 드럼 필의 현황과 앞으로 나아가야할 방향을 제시하는 것이다.
본 연구는 한국 대중음악사에 따른 대중음악의 흐름을 분석한 후, 분석된 흐름에 따라 발생한 주요사건과 유행했던 음악을 중심으로 시대를 분류하고, 시대별 분류에 언급된 곡 중 해당 시대의 중요한 특징이 나타나는 곡을 드럼 필 위주로 분석하였다.
그 결과 한국 대중음악은 1980년대에 발라드 장르가 생겼으며, 발라드 드럼 필은 시대별로 점차 세분화되고 응용되어 복잡해졌고, 현재 과거로 회귀하는 단순한 발라드 드럼 필이 나타남과 동시에 음반시장의 변화와 MIDI의 발달에 의한 실연의 축소가 이루어지고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
이러한 연구결과를 토대로 드럼연주자들은 시대별 발라드 드럼 필의 흐름을 이해한 후 드럼 홈 레코딩 환경의 구축과 함께 발라드 드럼 필 샘플을 제작하는 의미 있는 시도를 해야 할 것이다.
이러한 본 연구의 결과가 급변하는 미래를 대비하여 연구와 연습에 매진하고 있는 음악인과 후학에게 도움이 되길 바란다.
