광학적 공간의 연구 = (The) study of optical space

국문 초록 (Abstract)

21세기의 미술은 상상하기 힘들 정도로 다양한 주제와 기법을 가진 작품들로 넘쳐나고 있다. 많은 예술작가들은 각기 자신만의 독창적이 기법을 가지고 주제를 표현하고자 하지만 실로 그것은 쉬운 일이 아니다. 그렇지만 기법보다 중요한 것은 작가 자신들이 가지고 있는 독창적인 사상이다.
많은 예술가들은 여러 가지 공통적인 부분이 있다. 그것은 주변의 일상이나 어떤 행위를 일반인들과 같이 단순히 보는 것이 아니라 작가가 관심을 둔 소재를 이리 저리 흔들어보고 연구해서 자신만의 독특한 사상으로 또 하나의 새로운 이야기를 탄생시킨다는 것이다. 아무리 같은 소재를 가지고 작업하는 작가들이라 해도 각각이 가지고 있는 이야기는 너무나도 상이하다.
본 논문에서는 빛으로 인해 생성된 두 개의 다르지만 한곳에 머물고 있는 공간들을 소개하고자 한다. 주변 화랑가나 심지어 같이 공부하는 학우들의 작품들만 보더라도 빛과 공간에 대한 주제는 무수히 많다. 하지만 각각이 주장하고자 하는 이야기는 전부 다양한 양상을 가질 것이다.
눈에 보이고 만질 수 있는 공간을 우리는 일반적으로 진상(眞相)이라 한다. 하지만 눈에 보인다고 해서 꼭 그 사물의 본질이라고 칭하기는 다소 설득력이 없다고 생각한다. 그렇다고 상상하는 공간을 보고 본질이냐고 물으면 그것 또한 아니라고 할 것이다. 본질이란 본래부터 갖고 있는 사물 스스로의 성질이나 모습을 칭하는 말인데 만약 빛이 없는 공간에서 인류가 태어났다면 우리는 눈이 아닌 사람의 촉각으로 그 사물의 본질을 정하였을 것이다.
본인이 말하는 사물의 본질은 이미 빛에 의해 지배당했다고 생각한다. 그로인해 우리가 존재하는 3차원의 공간은 빛에 의한 공간과 그로 인해 가려진 본질적인 공간으로 나뉘게 되었다.
본인이 언급하는 두 개의 공간은 같은 곳에 존재하는 공간이다. 단지 눈에 보이지 않는다고 해서 존재하지 않는다고 말할 수는 없다고 생각한다. 본질의 진실은 본인 작품의 연구를 통해 세상에 존재하는 사물 위에 덮인 빛의 껍데기가 아닌 빛 속에 감추어진 사물의 진실 된 모습과 빛에 지배당하지 않은 세상을 표현하고자 한다. 여기서 본질은 빛이나 다른 어떤 요인으로 인해 간섭받지 않은 원래의 상태를 의미한다.
이처럼 본인의 논문에서는 주변 사물과 공간의 본질에 대한 문제를 제기하고 그 본질에 좀 더 적극적으로 접근함으로써 독창적인 본인만의 주제를 가질 것이라 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In 21st century new works of art are exceeding our expectations and they come with original techniques as well as creative themes. Even though every single artist attempts to express their subject with distinctive artistic techniques, it is not an easy work to be made. However, there is one thing that weighs even more than techniques in terms of a work of art. That is the idea that an artist has in his mind.
There is a common characteristic observed among artists. That is, the way to treat every phenomenon they face in everyday life and it makes an artist become more distinctive from the common people. Artists are willing to examine things that they are interested in and try to interpret them in different points of view and then discover a new character of those things rather than simply looking at them without profound consideration as common people do. An array of art-making materials is released to the market as a result of this character although they deal with same subject.
This paper will address a set of art works pictury two different optical worlds. One of them is the literal world in which we live in at this time, the other one is the world which is not able to be seen with human vision when it is not dominated by "light". As a subject, the space of light is a common theme and it is found in an art student's work, yet what they claim in terms of light in their work is not the same at all.
A space which is visible so that we can actually sense them by touching are called the actual facts and it is based on its intrinsic attribute. Visibility is not enough as a logical basis to define the actual facts. Even if someone attempts to bring a space that people imagine in their mind, as a logical basis of the actual facts, it is also not enough. This is due to the fact that the meaning of the actual facts could be defined differently depending on how it is seen by the one 'seeing' it. "the actual facts", as we perceived only can be valid a place where lights exists. What if we are in the place where there is no light at all? For instance, we would have perceive things through another sense, such as tactual sense, not through the sense of sight. The intrinsic attribute of things that I have drawn in this paper is overwhelmed by light. Consequently, the three-dimensional space was divided into two parts:
A room filled with light and the same room with some shades.
I believe that visibility and existence do not rely on each other. What I want to express is not what I can see from the things that actually exist, but the intrinsic substance hidden by light.
I raised the question of what intrinsic space is with a constructive approach. I expect a creative subject to be generated while attempting to answer this question.
