Material & Method : 16 articular surfaces of both femurs of 8 rabbits were diveded into four groups; each group was injected with Hyaluronic acid(HA), Prednisolone(PS) and Normal saline twice at 7-days inteval; Control group(saline & saline), Experimental group 1(PS & PS), Experimental gruop 2(HA & PS), Experimental group 3(HA & HA); Each group was divided into 7 -weeks group & 9-weeks group according to sacrafice time(7 weeks & 9 weeks).
Results : The results are following; HA increased the counts & sizes of cells and the counts of new vessels. 9 weeks groups were more likely than 7 weeks groups.
Conclusion : This results may propose that HA activates the regeneration of cartilage of articular surface and repeated injections of HA are more effective than single injection. Therefore, HA injection to osteoarthritis is thought to be effective treatment in osteoarthritis.
