      As one of major causes for lake eutrophication, enlargement of livestock industry is pointed out In order to remove this livestock waste effectively. more advenced technologies are required Most of conventional wastewater treatments are not able to remove the nutrients in effect especially phosphorus. So far. the most common practice is the precipitation to form an insoluble salt using Fe. Al or Ca ion Among these cations Fe ion is reported to be more useful than Al ion in phosphate removal As a potential source of Fe ion. the steel mill slag and steel mill sludge consist of 35%~75% of iron oxide Thus, this study investigates the feasibility of steel mill slag and steel mill sludge as a source of Fe o remove phosphate from livestock waste
      It is observed that the maximum removal rate is 65% at pH 7 and the removal efficiency increases at lower pH. It is shown that the removal efficiency decreases when anions such as Cl^- and SO_4^2- are added in solution Consequently, these results reveal that steel mill slag and steel mill sludge can be used as good sources to provide Fe ion in the removal of phosphate from livestock wastewater
