New thinking, better known to the non-Russian speaking world as glasnost and perestroika, has become a fashionable word among trendy intellectuals, as well as concerned politicians and hopeful citizens all over the globe, inside and outside the Soviet Union. this article expresses the hope that new thinking will work favorably for mankind and for the sake of the Soviet citizens. It thus analyzes the role of new words in ideational games and warfare among intellectuals, politicians, and nations. A good test for the new word and its genuine content would be to follow Marx's insight into the character of ideas and ideational games in the real world of politics and power: let praxis be the test for the theory, let political reality and social and moral change serve as verification for the humanistic character of new thinking.
