    To stay competitive in a rapidly changing market, software producing organizations must solve serious problems. They must reduce time-to-market, enhance quality, increase diversity to fit needs, enhance standardization and interoperability, and exploit support technologies. Software evolution and reuse based on the object-oriented concept are key solutions to achieve these goals. Today more object oriented software professionals are employed to reuse and evolve existing applications than to develop new systems from scratch. The understanding of what properties are critical for construction of a flexible and extensible object-oriented class hierarchy design becomes increasingly important in software evolution.
    In this paper, we present some class hierarchy styles for achieving validity and extensibility of a class hierarchy design. We encourage to use the styles as a means for validating quality of a class hierarchy, and for transforming an object-oriented-class hierarchy into a better style in terms of validity and extensibility of a class hierarchy design.
