The origin of impurity absorption peak in the MgGaS_4Co^2+ single crystal is the electron transition among energy levels of Co^2+ located at the Cs symmetry site In the photoluminescence spectrum of the single crystal at 10 K, a blue emission with a peak at 405 nm and a red emission with a peak at 607 nm were observed for the MgGa_2S_4 single crystal
