베트남전쟁 시기 한국의 전쟁 동원과 일상

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 베트남 전쟁 시기 한국의 전쟁동원 방식과 일상의 변화를 살펴보고, 그 사회사적 의미를 드러내고자 했다. 이를 위해 국내 전선을 조직했던 방식을 물질적 동원, 문화적 상징으로서의 군사적 남성성의 고양, 위기의식의 확산이라는 세 영역으로 나누어 살펴보고자 했다.
첫째, ‘물질적 동원’에서는 전쟁 당시 국가의 참전군인 지원정책, 이와 연관된 국내의 동원 정책, 그리고 이것이 국민 일상에 미친 영향을 살펴보고자 했다. 당시 국가는 전방과 후방이 일체감을 갖게 하기 위해 노력했고, 그 핵심에는 원호사업이 있었다. 하지만 원호사업의 물적 토대는 국가의 공적 영역보다는 시민사회의 사적 영역에서 주로 충당되었다. 이 연구는 국가가 사적 영역을 동원하는 방식의 특징, 그리고 이에 대한 국민의 대응을 보다 밀도 있게 살펴보고자 했다.
둘째, 본 연구는 베트남전쟁 당시 군사주의 문화의 특성을 살펴보고자 했다. 당시 국가는 전방인 전장을 통해 후방의 국민을, 역으로 국민을 통해 전장의 국군을 독려하고, 양자의 일체감을 형성하고자 노력했다. 이는 군사적 남성성을 고양하는 군사주의 문화의 활성화로 이어졌다. 베트남전쟁은 군사주의 문화가 일상으로 침투하여 한국사회의 군사화를 촉진하는 역사적 계기였다.
셋째, 전쟁과 위기의식의 확산에서 주목해 볼만한 것은 ‘담론으로서의 위기’가 한국군의 전투병 파병을 통해 ‘실제적 위기’로 바뀌어 갔다는 점이다. 안보위기와 정권의 불안감은 국민 생활의 규율과 통제의 강화를 가져왔고, 이는 사회의 군사화를 심화시켰다.
① ‘물질적 동원’, ② ‘문화적 상징으로서의 군사적 남성성의 고양’, ③ ‘위기의식 확산’은 독자적인 영역을 지니면서도 서로 중첩되면서 전장과 일상을 연결했다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구자는 이후 연구를 통해 이러한 연결점들을 보다 면밀히 분석하여 베트남전쟁이 한국 사회의 일상을 바꾸어 갔던 지점들을 드러내겠다. 이는 전쟁 당시의 사회 변화뿐만 아니라 지금 현재 한국 사회에 남아 있는 베트남전쟁의 사회·문화적 유산을 추적하는 작업이 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores the Korean's war mobilization for the Vietnam War and change of everyday life as well as the socio-historical point of view of Korean. Specially, the analysis focuses on the three domains of the home front line in the Vietnam War: the mobilization of materials, boosting military masculinity as cultural symbol, and diffusion with consciousness of crisis.
First, it is examined the veteran support policy which is related the mobilization policy of the Korean government, and the influence on the daily life of Koran in 'the mobilization of materials.' At that time, the government had tried to have sense of unity which focused on core areas of relief service with the front and rear. The material foundation of the relief service, however, were devoted to the citizen's private domain rather than the national ones. The study deals with characteristic of the government's mobilization on the private domains and the correspondence of citizens in depth.
Second, this paper also discusses the military culture of Korea during the Vietnam War. The government had encouraged the people in the rear through the battle field, and vice versa. In addition to, it continued working with establishing a sense of belonging between two lines, which got connected to the vitalization of raising military masculinity. We could realize that the Vietnam War provides a historic opportunity for an acceleration of the Korea's militarization as the military culture passed through the citizen's everyday life.
Third, the significant thing we are worthy of notice is that 'the crisis as argument' leads into 'the practical crisis' with the military mobilization of Korean army. The security crisis and political unrest of Korean government had stirred the reenforcement of the rules and control for the people, and it is intensified the militarization of Korean society.
The mobilization of materials, boosting military masculinity as cultural symbol, and diffusion with consciousness of crisis had established their own independent domains, simultaneously with the reiteration which was linked the battlefield and daily life. I will examine thoroughly the connection between these factors which the Vietnam War made changes in Korean's daily life. The study hereafter could find a trace of the changes in society in wartime, as well as the Vietnam War's social and cultural inheritance in Korea.
