책 : 현실과 판타지 세계의 통로 - 미하엘 엔데와 코르넬리아 풍케의 판타지 소설 연구 -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 독일의 대표적 판타지 소설인 미하엘 엔데의 <끝없는 이야기>와 코르넬리아 풍케의 <잉크하트>, 두 편을 분석하고 비교하는 연구다. 두 작품에서 공통적인 것은 이야기 진행에서 책이 매우 중요한 역할을 한다는 점이다. 소설 속에서 허구의 판타지세계와 실제 현실세계는 중첩과 착종의 관계 속에서 혼합되는데, 두 세계를 연결하는 통로가 바로 책이다. 작품의 주인공들은 독서가이다 그들은 책을 읽던 중에 책 속의 이야기 세계, 판타지 세계를 특별하게 경험하게 된다. 하지만 두 소설에서 판타지세계와 현실세계의 관계 양상은 서로 다르다.
엔데의 작품에서 소년 바스티안은 책 속으로 들어간다. 책을 읽던 자신이 이야기 속의 주인공이 된다. 즉, 판타지세계가 독자의 상상력에 의해 생생한 현실로 바뀌는 것이다. 반대로 풍케의 소설에서는 책 속 이야기에 등장하는 캐릭터들이 현실세계로 소환된다. 현실의 질서는 저편 세계에서 온 존재들에 의해 중단되고 세계는 혼란과 위기에 빠진다. 모와 메기 부녀는 일련의 모험을 겪으며 현실 세계의 질서를 회복시켜야 한다.
이들 소설에서 환상성은 실제 현실과 허구의 세계가 혼합됨으로써 야기되는 것이 확인되었다. 독자가 책 속의 판타지세계와 생생하게 소통하기 위해서는 상상력이 풍부한 몰입하는 책읽기가 필요하다. 독서에서 야기되는 환상적 표상은 시각적 기술 효과가 제시하는 영상 이미지보다 훨씬 풍부하고 현실적이다. 이런 점에서 <끝없는 이야기>와 <잉크하트>의 주인공들은 뛰어난 독서가들이었다. 그러므로 이 소설들은 디지털 영상시대에 점차 소멸되어가는 책 문화에 대한 일종의 오마주이기도 하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study is to analyse and compare two German fantasy novels: Michael Ende's The Neverending Story and Cornelia Funke's Inkheart. In both narratives the 'book' plays a very important role. In the novels, the fantasy world and real world are mixed by overlapping or clashing. It is the book that is a passage connecting the two worlds. The protagonists of the novels are people who read books. While reading, they have a peculiar fantasy world experience in the books. However, in two novels the ways in which the fantasy world and the real world are related to each other are different.
In the Ende's work, Bastian, a boy, goes into the story of the book. The reader becomes a hero in the fantastic story. It means that in the reader's imagination a fantasy world turns into a vivid reality. In contrast, in the Funke's novel, the fictive characters in the stories are called to the real world. By beings who came from the fantasy world, the order of the real world is interrupted, and the world falls into chaos and crisis. Maggie and her father must restore the order of the real world through a series of adventures.
It is confirmed in these novels that the fantasy elements are caused by the blending of reality and the fictive world. In order to communicate lively with fictive worl
