The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of high protein and carbohydrate intake on anabolic/catabolic hormones and nitrogen balance following high-intensity resistance training. Twenty seven healthy men college students were randomly assigned to high carbohydrate intake group (HCHO; n=15) and high protein intake group (HPRO; n=12). Both group participated in a supervised resistance training program consisted of 3sets with 75% 1RM intensity for 12 weeks (4days per week). After training, body weight and body fat mass were decreased, but there was no a significant difference between both groups. Testosterone and testosterone/cortisol ratio were significantly increased in HCHO with showing the difference between groups. Arginine and nitrogen balance were significantly increased in both groups. As a results, it does not seem that the effect of 12 weeks resistance training is influenced by high protein and carbohydrate intake.
