빅토리아 시대 여성 종교시 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

빅토리아 시대는 많은 여성시인들이 종교시를 썼던 시대였다. 빅토리아 시대 여성들이 비교적 자유롭게 종교적 문제에 대해 언급하고 또 이 시기 여성 종교시가 매우 폭발적으로 증가하게 되고 많은 독자를 확보하게 된 것은 이들의 종교시가 남성들의 지배 권력에 커다란 위협이 되지 않았기 때문이었다. 즉, 이들의 시는 사회적 ‘저항’의 시라기보다는 ‘순응’의 시였다. 이 점을 고려하면 크리스티나 로제티의 종교시는 매우 흥미롭다. 로제티의 종교시는 남성 지배 권력에 대하여 결코 순응적이지 않다. 로제티의 시에서 나타나는 끊임없는 신앙적 자기 정체성에 대한 고민은 사회 속에서 여성의 열악한 사회적 지위에 대한 사회적 고민과 맥을 같이하고 있다. 그리고 비록 종교라는 주제적 제한성 때문에 당대의 정치사회적 문제와 여성들의 사회적 지위에 대해 직접적으로 언급하지는 않지만, 로제티의 시는 끊임없이 남성권력의 전복을 꿈꾸는 여성 화자의 목소리를 통해서 남성 지배 담론의 허구성을 지적한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Victorian age was a time when more number of women's religious poems were written than any other ages. During the Victorian age, religion was one of the few topics allowed to women writers and their poetry enjoyed great popularity, because women were considered more religious than men. Women's religious poetry was considered not a threat, but a conformation, to the contemporary male powers. In this context, Christina Rossetti's religious poems are very interesting in that they challenge and resist against the contemporary male powers. Rossetti's religious poems constantly express a strong hope for an equal partnership between men and women in heaven. These poems, at the same time, reminds readers of unfair treatment of women by men and women's degraded life in this world. In this way Rossetti's religious poetry subverts and resists against the male-dominant society of the Victorian age.
