The purpose of research was to interpret fathering experiences in multicultural families. The participants were 5 Korean men who got married with Vietnamese women and were raising their own children. The participants' stories from personal interviews and focus group interviews were analyzed qualitatively through N_Vivo 9 program.
As a result of the research, the experiences of raising children were summarized as follows. The nature of multicultural family seemed to make father's role more complex. Some Korean fathers performed their fathering actively and others did not want to do according to their own belief. Most participants expressed various kinds of difficulties caused by foreign wives and they had ambivalent feelings with regard to raising children - gladness of 'being a father' and fear of children's doubtful future. Additionally some fathers got dissatisfaction to effectiveness of the policies supporting multicultural families.
The lived experiences of fathering from the participants were re-interpreted on the two perspectives which were 'being a father in multicultural family' and 'becoming a father in multicultural society'.
