에이드리언 리치의 시: 자의식 및 생존자의 목소리

국문 초록 (Abstract)

가부장적 억압과 착취에 의해 악용되어 온 세계에서 여성의 과거와 현재의 삶을 증언하는 것은 에이드리언 리치의 시의 주요 주제가 되어왔다. 리치의 시는 세계를 이해하는 시적화자의 응시와 목소리를 통해 자의식을 효과적으로 보여주는 인덱스 역할을 한다.세계를 이해하는 시적 주체의 시선과 목소리는 공포, 상실, 고독, 추방, 분열로 구체화된다. 또한 그것은 시, 비평, 젠더에 대한 페미니즘적 이해와 가부장적 이해의 차이를 드러내는 하나의 담론과도 같다. 자의식은 리치의 시에서열정, 눈물, 재치, 취향, 박해받은 야심(fire, tears, wit, taste, martyred ambition)(Adrienne Rich's Poetry 14)으로 구체화되고 있으며 시인의 진정한 자아 탐색뿐만 아니라 정치적 자의식도 포함하고 있다.열정, 눈물, 박해 박은 야심과 같은 상실, 소외, 트라우마적 기억은 망명의 실제 상황이 아니라 은유적 상황으로서의 망명과 관계된다. 그녀의 시에서 망명적 상황은 일종의 수사일 뿐만 아니라 장점이 된다. 즉 역사와 문화의 오류를 용인하지 않고 용의주도하게 역사, 교육, 일상의 삶을 수정할 것을 요구하는 원동력이 된다. 본고는 내면을 바라보는 것 이외에도 미래를 향해 바라봄으로써 지배적인 인식론과 지배적인 이데올로기 구조, 시스템으로부터의 소외에 맞서는 방식으로서의 ‘친교 혹은 사랑’(intimacy)의 윤리를 살펴본다. 다시 말해 이것은 자의식에 도달하며 내부뿐만 아니라 밖으로 그리고 미래를 향해 바라보는 것으로 사적인 갈망, 공적인(사회적인) 갈망과 관련되어 있는 주체의 과거, 공포, 욕망을 평가하는 작업이다. 망명적 상황은 상실, 노스탤지어, 고통, 불안, 갈망에 근거한 친교에 대한 이해를 제공하며 친교에 관한 사고는 삶의 새로운 가능성을 확장한다. 리치는 개인적인 차원을 정치적인 차원으로 강조하면서 사적인 삶과 공적인 삶의 장벽을 허무는 친교의 윤리를 주장한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Bearing witness to the lost lives of woman past and present in a world that has been misused by patriarchal exploitation has been one of the major themes of Adrienne Rich's poetry. The poetic text of Rich becomes the effective index of self-consciousness through gaze and voice which overwhelms and presses at poetic subject, as embodied in memories or psychic realities such as fear, loss, solitude, displacement, loss of control. Such an idea of self-consciousness also provides a context which reveals differences between feminist and patriarchal understandings of poetry, criticism, and gender. The Dream of a Common Language opens with a poem entitled "Power." Language, poetry, contains a power of its own. Rich has a responsibility to that power, to the powerof self consciousness. For her, the exilic condition, which displaces, reconfigures, and fragments the self, is not only a trope, but also an asset; it gives one a perspective, a vantage point. And it makes for a certain fertile detachment and gives one new ways of seeing. Rich’s vision of intimacy can be understood as a way to combat epistemological alienation by gaining self-consciousness through a looking inward and outward that can assess one’s past, fears, and desires in relation to one’s private and public(social) longings
