The purpose of this project is to compile Diplomatic Documents of Korea(DDK). DDK is Korea’s first modern diplomatic documents on the foreign relations and modern history of Korea for the critical fifty-year period lasting from the 1860s to the 1910s – the period of Korea’s struggle for a
modern nation-state. DDK is a comprehensive collection of rare key foreign policy documents published by Korea as well as by virtually all of the significant countries involved in the Korea Peninsula during the modern era, ranging from China and Japan in East Asia to the European
powers of Great Britain, Russia, France, and Germany and including the United States.
DDK contains many of the most important diplomatic documents that have never been published before. The DDK research group has collected invaluable unpublished documents from around the world, taken considerable time and effort in reading difficult handwritings of the original manuscripts, and printed them for the first time. Moreover, DDK is very user-friendly, as the documents are arranged systematically in chronological order, thereby enabling researchers to easily find any documents they need. DDK also provides useful information attached to each document, such as dates, senders/receivers, and titles of the documents.
