한국 선거정치에서 정치적 세련됨의 지속과 변화

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 총선에서 정치적 세련됨(political sophistication)이 당파적 단서(partisan cues), 정책, 지역주의 등의 사용에 끼치는 영향에 관한 연구이다. 최근에 많은 학자들은 투표자들이 정치에 무지한 것은 크게 중요하지 않다고 주장하고 있다. 왜냐하면 정치에 무지한 자들이 정보 또는 지식의 부족함을 극복하기 위하여 정보의 지름길(shortcuts) 또는 유리스틱(heuristics)을 이용하여 합리적 결정을 내린다고 보기 때문이다. 이러한 연구에 바탕을 두고 정치적 비세련자는 선거에서 주로 당파적 단서 혹은 지역주의와 정치지도자를 사용하는 경향이 있다고 간주한다. 이러한 생각은 이론적인 점에서 근사할지 모르나, 경험적으로 지지를 받지 못한다. 본 논문의 이러한 가설 혹은 주장을 계량적으로 분석하고 검증하는 작업이 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of the study is to study the effects of political sophistication on the use of partisan cues in the Korean general elections. Many scholars in recent years have argued that it does no matter so much that many voters are poorly informed about politics because they can use information shortcuts or heuristic cues to overcome the lack of information and still make a reasoned choice. Based on these studies, much of the political sophistication literature in political science assumes that the use of party cues in the voting booth is the hallmark of an unsophisticated voter. Although this idea is nice in theory, it is not supported by empirical evidence. Thus, the main research question in this paper is what is the relationship between political sophistication and the use of partisan cues in South Korean Politics. This study explores the impact of political sophistication on the use of partisan cues, political participation, and electoral choices during the general elections.
