구한말 미 개신교 선교사들의 對韓 인식

국문 초록 (Abstract)

구한말 미 개신교 선교사들은 근대문명에 대해 이중적인 태도를 가지고 있었다. 미국에서는 청교도적, 근본주의적, 종말적 신앙관에 근거하여 근대문명과 거리를 두었지만 한국에서는 복음을 전하는 일과 함께 한국인들을 계몽하는 일을 수행함으로써 근대문명을 전달하기도 하였다. 이들의 근대문명에 대한 관념과 한국에 대한 인식태도를 분석하는 것은 한국개신교회사를 이해하는 데 중요한 역할을 할 뿐 아니라 문명과 종교가 어떠한 관계를 형성해왔는지 파악하는 데에 도움을 준다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research takes notice of the understanding of missionaries` roles and their opinions of modern civilization, and their understanding of Korea as the mission area. This research will provide important material in the understanding of the history of Korean protestant churches. Futhermore, study will help to grasp the formation of the relationship between civilization and religion in non-western society Korea being given modern civilization by western society.
