Economic activities of korean women is in the trend of continuous increase. The ratio of Korean women entrepreneurs is 36 percents of total business men and women, and has already reached the level of advanced countries.
As a result of the basic statistic research on total business entities in korea, Korean women entrepreneurs are in the trend of annual increase, such increase performs the promotion of women economic activities, which ,in turn, develops women socio-economic position, dissolves the differentiation of females from males, and causes the effects on enlargement of employment, and, in the long, contributes the development of national economy.
However, in comparison with the increase in the number of women entrepreneurs, the size of business enterprises is vary small to the extents as for the ones which have less than five employers to reach the degree of 92 percents of total women enterprises. in addition, in contrast that the economic contribution of women is uprising than ever before, the support of central or local government and financial agencies is relatively short. although 'the act on supporting women-owned business' is established and performs supporting policies, by the lack of recognition of the women business systems, in contrast of the increase of the number, owing to the skewness of small size and unwealthy and lower growing business, the real growth of them is getting declined.
The study is based on the Research of Women Business issued bi-annually since 2001 by Small and Medium Business Administration, and Korean Women Entrepreneurs Association, and on the statistics of the basic research on national business enterprises in 2006. The purpose of the study is on the situation analysis and on the recognition of the realities of creation and business operation of women business enterprises, and on what the factors affected on the decline of them are. and on supporting policies about how the growth of women business enterprises can be developed.
Especially, the study centers on the women business enterprises located in Kwangju-Jeonnam-Jeonbuk district, which reach only 14.7 percents, in comparison with 36 percents of the numbers of total business enterprises.
