청소년들의 외상사건 경험

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 외상사건에 대한 DSM PTSD 진단기준과 학자들의 정의 및 경험적 연구결과를 토대로 외상사건을 포괄적으로 정의하고, 우리나라 청소년들이 경험하는 외상사건의 종류, 빈도 및 외상 관련 증상을 실증적으로 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전국에 거주하는 9세에서 24세의 청소년을 대상으로 지금까지 살면서 경험한 외상사건을 조사하였고, 1274명의 자료를 질적 방법과 양적 방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 합의적 질적 방법을 사용하여 자료를 분석한 결과 총 43가지의 외상사건 범주가 도출되었고, 이 중 기존의 외상사건 질문지에 구체적인 외상사건으로 포함되어 있지 않은 24가지의 외상사건이 보고되었다(예, ``(가족 이외에서 경험한) 관계 실패, 심각한 거절, 갈등 경험 또는 목격``, ``학업, 일에서의 실패나 어려움``). 한편, 응답자의 68.1%가 지금까지 한 건 이상의 외상사건을 경험한 것으로 나타났으며, 남성은 ``교통사고``를 가장 많이 보고하였고 여성은 ``(가족 이외에서 경험한) 관계 실패, 심각한 거절, 갈등 경험 또는 목격``을 가장 많이 보고하였다. PTSD 증상 수준이 상대적으로 높은 집단(잠재적 PDSD집단)에서는 가족 이외의 관계 실패뿐 아니라 가족 내에서의 갈등이나 심리적 폭력을 많이 경험한 것으로 나타났다. 잠재적 PTSD 집단에 포함된 비율은 성별과 학교급에 따라 다르지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 주요 연구결과를 중심으로 교육 및 상담실제에 대한 시사점을 논하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The primary purpose of this study was to empirically examine the types and prevalence of traumatic events in a nationwide sample of South Korean adolescents between the ages of 9 and 24 (N = 1274) using online and offline surveys. We also investigated the types of events that are most likely to lead to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Consensual qualitative research (CQR) methodology revealed that a total of 43 discrete types of traumatic events were identified, including 24 new ones (e. g., relationship failures, failure or hardship in schoolwork). Most respondents (68.1%) reported having experienced a traumatic event in their lifetime; men reported traffic accident and women reported relationship failures as the most common event, Lifetime exposure to relationship failures as well as family conflict including psychological abuse were associated with higher PTSD symptoms. Women reported more traumatic events than did men, but no differences were found in terms of the proportion of those who meet criteria for PTSD by participant gender and school level. Implications for education and counseling practice are discussed.
