원불교 염불관에 대한 연구 : 天台四明知禮 염불삼매와의 비교를 통해서

국문 초록 (Abstract)

원불교 염불은 정신수양을 위함이자 佛에 향한 신앙에 대한 구체적인 표현방법이기도 하다. 이러한 원불교 염불이 그 의미와 방법에 있어서 어떠한 특징을 가지고 있는지에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 특히 불교의 역사 속에서 발전해온 염불과 어떠한 차이를 가지는가에 대해 四明知禮의 염불삼매론과 비교해보고자 하는 것이었다.
四明知禮는 중국 송대에 이르러 천태정토교를 확립한 인물이다. 그는 정토종의 대표적인 인물인 導綽과 善導와 달리 天台實相論에 바탕하여 염불삼매론을 전개하였다. 그러므로 먼저 원불교의 염불에 대한 일반적인 교의를 분명히 하고자 하였다. 그리고 사명지례의 염불과 관련한 주요 개념을 밝혀 천태정토교와의 차이와 근본적으로 상통하는 점을 규명하고자 하였다.
원불교 염불은 四明知禮의 염불삼매론과 비교하면 約心觀佛과 唯心淨土등의 개념에서 유사하였다. 또한 事觀念佛보다 理觀念佛이 상통하며, 구체적인 방법으로 칭명염불을 비롯하여 여러 가지 면에서 많은 공통점과 특징을 발견하였다.
이와 같은 비교를 통하여 원불교 염불을 보다 폭넓게 해석할 수 있으며, 특히 불교적 관점에 비추어 원불교 염불이 가지는 의미를 보다 구체화시킬 수 있다고 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Chanting Buddha in Won Buddhism is not only the method for the cultivation of spiritual stability but also the explicit way of the expression of faith in Buddha. We studied the characteristics of the chanting Buddha in Won Buddhism in the meaning and the methods. Particularly, to find out the differences between the chanting Buddha in Won Buddhism and the chanting Buddha in Buddhism which had been developed in the history of Buddhism, we compared chanting Buddha in Won Buddhism with Ssu-ming Chih-li's Chanting Buddha-samadhi (염불삼매론).
Ssu-ming Chih-li established Pure Land of T'ien-T'ai(천태정토교) in the Cho-Sung Dynasty. He, whose approach was different from those of Dao-Chao(導綽) and Shan-tao(善導), developed Chanting Buddha-samadhi(염불삼매론) based on the The True Feature of all Existences(천태실상론). Therefore, first of all, we tried to clarify the general dogma of the chanting Buddha in Won Buddhism. And, we try to examine the differences and common things with Pure Land of T'ien-T'ai (천태정토교) closely by elucidating the major concepts related with Ssu-ming Chih-li's chanting Buddha.
The chanting Buddha in Won Buddhism has concepts similar to Amitabha'thinking of mind(約心觀佛) and pure land of mind only (唯心淨土) in Ssu-ming Chih-li's Chanting Buddha-samadhi(염불삼매론). Also, it is similar to observance of truth (理觀念佛) rather thanobservance of phenomena(事觀念佛) and it has many common things and features with Ssu-ming Chih-li's Chanting Buddha-samadhi(염불삼매론), for example, Amitabha by calling him(칭명염불) which is a specific method. We can fully understand the chanting Buddha in Won Buddhism by the above comparison and especially we can embody the meaning of the chanting Buddha in Won Buddhism from a viewpoint of Buddhism.
