디지털 인문학 = Digital Humanities - Cooperative Scheme between Humanities and Cultural Contents -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인문콘텐츠학계와 전통적인 인문학계가 공동으로 관심으로 가져야 할 과제로 ‘디지털 인문학’(Digital Humanities)의 가능성에 주목해 볼 것을 제안한다.
디지털 인문학이란 정보기술(Information Technology)의 도움을 받아 새로운 방식으로 수행하는 인문학 연구와 교육, 그리고 이와 관계된 창조적인 저작활동을 지칭하는 말이다. 이것은 전통적인 인문학의 주제를 계승하면서 연구 방법면에서 디지털 기술을 활용하는 연구, 그리고 예전에는 가능하지 않았지만 컴퓨터를 사용함으로써 시도할 수 있게 된 새로운 성격의 인문학 연구를 포함한다.
순수 인문학의 입장에서 보면 디지털 인문학은 인문지식의 사회적 확산을 돕는 길이고, 인문콘텐츠학의 입장에서 보면 그것은 문화산업에 응용할 방대한 인문학 지식을 가장 효과적으로 획득하는 방법을 마련하는 일이다. 미국과 유럽, 심지어는 가까운 일본과 대만의 상황을 보더라도 디지털 인문학의 육성은 범인문학계(인문학+인문콘텐츠학)의 자연스러운 발전 궤도상에 있는 과제이다.
인문콘텐츠학이 디지털 인문학을 수용하기 위해 우선적으로 해야 할 일은 문화콘텐츠학과에서 배출하는 인력의 일부를 인문정보기술의 운용 능력을 갖춘 지식코디네이터로 육성하는 일이다. 이들은 인문지식에 대한 기본적인 소양뿐 아니라 그곳에서 생산되는 지식을 디지털 콘텐츠로 조직화하는 정보 처리 능력을 갖추고 있는 사람들이다. 디지털 인문학의 전문 인력이 절대적으로 부족한 우리나라 현실에서 대학마다 독립적으로 이 분야의 정규 교과 과정을 운영하기는 힘들다. 하지만 학회 차원에서 누구나 참여할 수 있는 개방적인 교육 기회를 마련한다면, 소수의 교수 인력만 가지고도 다수에게 그 지식을 전달하는 효과를 거둘 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper will argue that a cooperation is necessary between the fields of humanities contents and traditional humanities in exploring the potential of digital humanities.
Digital humanities refers to all new types of humanities research, education, and creative projects enabled by information technology. The definition is not limited to studies of traditional humanities topics using information technology as a research method; but it also includes completely new forms of humanities research realized by the use of computers.
Digital humanities can be beneficial to both humanities and cultural contents. For the traditional humanities studies, digital humanities will contribute to a wide dissemination of humanities knowledge in society; for cultural contents, digital humanities will provide the most efficient medium to acquire humanities knowledge for application in the cultural industry.
In order for the cultural contents to contain digital humanities, I suggest that education programs of the cultural contents departments should train some of their students in information technology to raise them as humanities knowledge coordinators. These coordinators should be equipped with not only the basic humanities knowledge, but also the information-processing skills to systemize the knowledge into digital contents. In case of Korea, where there is a shortage of professionals in the field of digital humanities, it is difficult for colleges to independently run digital humanities programs. But with open educational opportunities such as Digital Humanities Conference, it will be possible with just a few human resources to distribute knowledge and ideas to a large audience.
