In nature, many of organisms express eye-catching colors produced by molecular pigments or biological nanostructures. The latter mechanism, termed as structural color, has been actively studied in the field of biomimicry. Their translation into sensor system provides simple, portable, and on-site availability. However, lack of inherent affinity of biomimetic materials results poor selectivity toward target of interest, and introducing active motif still remains a challenge. Here, we report development of peptide amphiphile based structural color and its utilization into sensor system. Lysine-rich peptide amphiphiles(LRPA) undergo supramolecular self-assembly into peptide nanofibers and form fibrous networks exhibiting distinctive color. Also, structural color bands were changed their color in selective manner when exposed to aldehyde gases. Furthermore, color change pattern analysis using principal component analysis demonstrated the discrimination ability of our sensor system.
