정부의 R&D 지출과 금융시장의 발전 정도가 경제성장에 미치는 영향 = The Effect of Government’s R&D Expenditure and Financial Market Development on Economic Growth

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 4차 산업혁명시대를 맞이하여 기술의 발전이 경제성장에서 매우 중요한 요인으로 대두되고 있다. 이에 따라 각국 정부는 기술수준을 높이기 위해 다양한 노력을 기울이고 있다. 본 연구는 정부의 R&D에 대한 관심 및 금융시장의 발전 정도와 경제성장의 관계를 실증적으로 분석하여 시사점을 제시하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 하고 있다. 구체적으로 52개 국가를 대상으로 2000년부터 2016년까지의 자료를 사용하여 정부의 R&D 지출액과 금융시장의 발전 정도가 경제성장에 어떤 영향을 미치고 있는지 고정효과모형과 패널 GMM 추정을 통해 살펴보았다. 내생적 경제성장모형을 이론적 기반으로 실증적으로 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. GDP 대비 차지하는 비중으로 측정한 정부의 R&D 지출액과 경제성장률은 음(-)의 관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 금융부문에서의 신용규모를 GDP에서 차지하는 비중으로 측정한 금융시장의 발전 정도 또한 정부의 R&D 지출액과 마찬가지로 경제성장률과 음(-)의 관계를 보이고 있다. 하지만 정부의 R&D 지출액과 금융시장의 발전 정도의 상호작용 변수는 경제성장률과 양(+)의 관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과는 정부의 R&D 지출이 증가할 때 금융시장이 발전할수록 경제성장에 미치는 긍정적인 영향이 크다는 것을 의미한다.

Recently, a technological advancement is getting more important as a factor of the economic growth in the era of 4th industrial revolution. Each government is looking at diverse ways to improve the level of technology. The research purpose of this paper is to deduce the implication by analyzing effects of government’s R&D expenditure and financial market development on economic growth. To perform these analyses, this research used 52 countries data from 2000 to 2016.
The empirical results on the theoretical basis of endogenous economic growth model are as follows. There is the negative relationship between government’s R&D expenditure and economic growth. The level of financial market development also has the negative effect on economic growth. On the other hand, the interaction term of two variables has the positive influence on economic growth. These results mean that when government’s R&D expenditure rise, the economy of a country with higher financial market development will grow more.
