『황사영 백서』의 역사신학적 고찰 = A Historical-Theological Study of Hwang Sa-young’s White Paper

국문 초록 (Abstract)

『황사영 백서』는 조선 천주교회의 설립과 초기 박해 상황이라는 역사적 배경에서 탄생되었다. 『황사영 백서』의 저자인 황사영은 박해 후에 생존한 천주교 지도자들과 함께 이러한 어려움을 북경교회에 전하고 도움을 받고자 백서를 작성했다. 백서는 북경주교에게 전달되지 못하고, 조선의 정부측에 들어가게 되는데 이 시기부터 정부측과 당파측 그리고 교회측의 이본들이 등장하게 된다. 각자의 입장에서 이 백서를 수정해 자신들의 이해에 따른 근거로 삼았다. 또한 많은 필사본과 번역본들도 등장하게 되는데, 이러한 현상은 백서가 역사적으로, 정치적으로, 신학적으로 가지는 중요성을 말해준다. 황사영 백서는 그 구조를 통해서 북경주교에게 보내는 서한 형식으로 되어있고, 조선 교회의 박해 상황과 정치적 이해관계, 주문모 신부의 죽음, 신자들의 순교와 삶에 대한 증언, 조선 교회의 자유를 위한 방안등을 담고 있다. 이러한 원문의 구조와 내용의 분석을 통해서 신학적인 분석도 가능해졌다. 백서는 첫째로, 조선의 천주교인들이 천주교를 진리로 믿으면서 당시 조선의 사회적 근간이었던 성리학의 세계관과 진리들과 결별했다는 사실을 보여준다. 둘째로, 조선의 천주교인들은 서학을 연구하고 천주교를 믿으면서 폐쇄적인 사고방식에서 벗어나, 서양에 대한 이해와 개방적인 사고로 변해가고 있었다는 사실을 알 수 있다. 셋째로, 천주교를 반역 단체로 규정하고 박해했던 정치집단인 대왕대비와 벽파에 대한 불합리성을 비판하고 있다. 넷째, 순교자들의 배교했던 역사에 대한 증언을 통해서 순교자들에 대한 인간적인 이해와 순교에 대한 조선 천주교인들의 가치들을 보여주었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Hwang Sa-young white paper was born from the historical background of the establishment of the Catholic Church in Joseon and the initial persecution situation. Sa-young Hwang, the author of the white paper, wrote a white paper to share these difficulties with the Catholic leaders who survived the persecution to the Beijing Church and to receive help. The white paper could not be delivered to the Bishop of Beijing and entered the government side of Joseon. Each of them modified this white paper from their point of view and used it as a basis for their understanding. Many manuscripts and translations also appear, which speak of the historical, political, and theological significance of the White Paper. Hwang Sa-young’s white paper is in the form of a letter to the Bishop of Beijing through its structure. contains Through the analysis of the structure and content of this text, theological analysis became possible. First, the white paper shows that the Catholics of Joseon believed in Catholicism as the truth and broke with the worldview and truth of Neo-Confucianism, which was the social foundation of Joseon at the time. Second, it can be seen that the Catholics of Joseon were changing from a closed way of thinking to an understanding of the West and an open mind by studying Western studies and believing in Catholicism. Third, it criticizes the irrationality of Daewangdaebi and Byeokpa, the political groups that defined and persecuted Catholicism as a treason. Fourth, through the testimony of the history of martyrs’ apostasy, they showed a human understanding of the martyrs and the values o f Korean Catholics for martyrdom.
