중도입국청소년 학업실태 및 진로포부에 대한 탐색적 연구 = A Exploring Study on the Educational Situation and Career Expectation of Youth Migrants in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 "중도입국" 청소년들의 이주 초기 적응과정 중 교육실태와 진로포부에 대하여 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중국 출신 중도입국 청소년들을 대상으로 설문조사와 면접조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사에 참여한 청소년들은 총 403명이며 59.6%가 비재학 청소년으로 나타났다. 비재학 청소년들의 국적, 성별, 연령별 분포를 살펴보면, 국적을 취득하지 않은 경우, 남자 청소년의 경우, 연령이 높을수록 더 많은 것으로 조사되었다. "중도입국" 청소년들은 학업이나 진로에 대한 포부가 높은 반면 현실적으로 이들의 욕구 실현은 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있다. 체류 신분상의 문제, 학교 전입에 필요한 서류 구비 문제, 한국 학교에서의 수동적 반응 등이 이들의 진입을 어렵게 하고 있으며, 일단 학교에 들어간다 해도 한국 학교에서의 제도적 지원 미비, 이주 청소년에 대한 교사 및 학생들의 태도, 본국에서 형성된 생활 습관 등이 이들의 학교 적응을 힘들게 하고 있다. 이와 함께 이들을 위한 적절한 진로교육이나 취업지원이 이루어지지 않고 있으며, 당장의 가정형편, 주변 친구들의 영향 등으로 부적절한 일시 근로나 아르바이트를 하고 있는 경우가 대부분이다. 이러한 생활 패턴은 장기적으로는 저항적인 또래 문화로 형성되어 제도교육 진입이나 적절한 취업과는 더욱 거리가 멀어지게 할 수도 있다. 결국 이들이 건전한 사회구성원으로 성장하도록 하기 위해서는 이들의 욕구와 사회문화적 배경을 활용할 수 있는 다양한 교육이나 진로 지원이 이루어져야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to explore education and career plan of the youth migrants who moved to Korean society from China in order to join to their family members, mostly to their mothers. For this, we conducted survey and in-depth interviews. The number of youth participating in the survey was 403 and the ratio of youths who were not attending school was 59.6% which was more than youths in schools. Ratio of migrant youths out of school were more when they did not have Korean nationalities; when they were boys; and when they were older. While they had high needs of education and career, the realities did not meet their needs. Their legal status, lack of documents for school entrance, passive responses of Korean schools were barriers to their school attendance. And even though they got into the schools, lack of supporting system of Korean schools, attitudes of Korean teachers and students to them and their ways of life in their back home made them hard to adjust to the Korean school context. In addition, it was hard to find proper career education and employment support for them at present situation. They often had some illegal part time jobs which were informed by their friends. Further, their ways of life could lead to forming a counter peer culture in the long term and avoid getting in to the public education and decent jobs. More relevant education and career plan should be provided for them to be members of Korean society.
