This study is based on the examination of 157 employees at various types of construction sites in Kwangju and Chunnam. The purpose of this study is to examine their awareness of electrical installation at construction sites, as well as their consciousness of accidents and the occurrence types of electric-injury accidents. It emphasizes the importance of electric safety education, which is expected at construction sites, and reveals basic data for precautions against electric-injury accidents and efficient safety supervision.
In respect of the degree of awareness of accidents, 93.6% of the employees in this survey showed a very high sense of the danger of such accidents. With respect to type of accident, 38.8% replied that accidental falls are the most dangerous, while 44.6% replied that they have experienced electric-injury. In regard to the types of the electric-injury accidents, 38.0% replied that leakage of electricity is the main source of such accidents.
It is therefore necessary to strengthen educational programs and precautional plans for electric-injury accidents. It is furthermore required to intensify the periodical execution of safety education, increase the publishing of guidebooks for safety education, and provide for thorough establishment and management of electrical equipment.
