국문 초록 (Abstract)

금강사(錦江寺) 제1대 주지였던 내전불관(內田佛觀)의 호칭은 대외적인 기록물에는 속세의 성씨와 법명을 연합한 것이, 금강사 내의 동종 명문에는 호와 법명을 연합한 것이 각각 사용되었다. 60여 년 동안 일본 조동종 소속 승려로 살았던 내전불관은, 국가가 불교를 보호해야 한다는 불교관을 갖고 있었다. 일제가 한국을 강점한 전후의 시기에 일본 조동종 소속 승려들은 한국 포교사로 임명되고 나서, 한국에서 포교 활동을 전개한 것으로 드러났다. 내전불관도 이 점에서 예외가 아니었을 것이라고 판
단한다. 이 시기 내전불관을 포함한 일본 조동종 소속 한국 포교사들의 나이나 경력은 만만치 않았다. 이로 보아, 당시 일본 조동종 본산에서 한국 포교를 중시하였고, 내전불관의 포교사로서의 능력을 인정하였다는 것 을 알 수 있다. 내전불관의 주된 포교 대상은 군산에 살고 있던 일본인들 이었다. 당시 금강사는 일본인 위주의 사찰이었다. 그의 사찰 운영 방침은 군산에서 쌀을 수탈하는데 앞장선 일본인 신도들의 평안을 빌어준다는 것, 일본 천황에게 충성한다는 것 등이었다. 그는 포교 활동을 통해

The Kumgangsa(錦江寺, the previous name of Dongguksa(東國寺))’s first monk, Uchida Bukkan(內田佛觀) who had been a monk belonging to the Japanese Jodongjong(曺洞宗) for 60 years had the thinking that the country had the need to protect the Buddhism. By the time Japanese imperialism invaded Korea, some of the Japanese Jodongjong monks were appointed as Korea pogyosa(布敎師) and then deployed the missionary work in Korea. It judges that Uchida Bukkan also have been no exception in this respect. At that time the age and the career of Japanese Jodongjong Korea pogyosa was not less. Uchida Bukkan was the same. The Japanese Jodongjong was focus on the missionary work in Korea and recognized Uchida Bukkan’s mission capability. Uchida Bukkan’s main mission target was not korean but Japanese those who lived in Kunsan. Kumgangsa was a temple of the Japanese-oriented. The Uchida Bukkan’s mission purposes were to make a give peace of Japanese believers those who take the lead
to the exploitation of rice in Kunsan and to be loyal to the Emperor of Japan and so on. Through missionary work, he
cooperated with the Japanese policies of aggression and rice exploitation.
