청소년의 사회적 위축 하위유형에 따른 사회정서적 기능의 차이 = Social Withdrawal Subtypes and Socio-emotional Functioning of Korean Adolescents

This study investigated the associations of three subtypes of social withdrawal(shyness, unsociability, and avoidance) and socio-emotional functioning(SEF), including bullying, victimization, depression, social anxiety, and loneliness, of Korean adolescents. The Child Social Preference Scale-Revised (Bowker & Raja, 2011) was adapted into Korean, and the adapted scale and the several measures of SEF were administered to 707 adolescent boys and girls at seven middle schools in Southeast areas in South Korea. Interrelationship of three social withdrawal subtypes and SEF were examined, taking into account of gender differences, and the comparisons of three subtype groups (shy, unsociable, and avoidant groups) and non-withdrawn groups on SEF indices were made. Results indicated that the subtypes had significant contributions to victimization, depression, social anxiety, and loneliness above and beyond the effect of gender; shyness had the highest contribution to SEFs and avoidance was uniquely associated only with loneliness and depression, while controlling for gender and the other subtypes. Analyses by subtype groups revealed that the shy group exhibited the highest level of depression, social anxiety, and loneness scores, while the unsociable and the avoidant were on the 2nd highest levels in social anxiety and loneliness, respectfully. Implications and limitations of these findings were fully discussed, along with suggestions for further study.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 사회적 접근-회피동기 모델에 기초한 사회적 위축의 하위유형(수줍음, 비사교성, 회피)에 따라 청소년의 괴롭힘 가해 및 피해경험, 우울, 대인불안, 외로움을 포함한 사회정서적 기능에서 차이가 있는지 알아보았다. 이를 위해 사회적 위축의 세 하위유형을 측정하는 사회적 선호 척도(Bowker & Raja, 2011)를 번안한 후 남녀 청소년 707명에게 실시하고 사회정서적 기능을 평가하여 이들 변인 간의 관계를 성차를 고려하여 살펴본 후, 연구대상 중 일부를 사회적 위축 하위유형 세 집단과 비위축 집단으로 구분하여 네 집단 간에 사회정서적 기능에서 차이가 있는지를 비교하였다. 분석결과, 청소년의 사회적 위축 하위유형은 성별의 영향을 통제한 후에도 괴롭힘 피해, 우울, 대인불안, 외로움에 대한 유의한 설명력이 있었으며, 하위유형 중 수줍음의 설명력이 가장 높았고, 회피는 외로움과 우울에만 유의하게 기여하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 수줍음형 집단은 가장 높은 수준의 우울, 대인불안, 외로움을 보였으며, 비사교형은 대인불안에서, 회피형은 외로움에서, 수줍음형 보다는 낮지만 비위축 집단이나 나머지 하위유형보다 높은 수준의 사회정서적 어려움을 보였다. 연구결과의 시사점, 의의, 제한점 및 후속연구를 위한 제언이 논의되었다.
