A 3kW bidirectional DC-DC converter (BDC) for electric vehicles is presented in this paper. The proposed converter consists of a half-bridge structure on the primary side, an isolation transformer and a synchronous rectifier on the secondary side. With this topology, bidirectional energy can transfer between the two DC buses. For the primary side DC power supply, the converter operates as a step-down mode in which the power flows into the secondary side battery, while the converter operates as a step-up mode when the power is transferred inversely from the secondary battery. The operational principle and theoretical analysis are discussed. Finally, a 3kW prototype is implemented to verify the performance of the proposed converter.
