The purpose of this study was to analyze the illustrations of Elementary English textbooks for the third grade students focusing on helping students improver communicative competence. Sixteen sorts of Elementary English textbooks, teacher's guides and visual aids were analyzed.
The illustrations were found to be good to some degree, but not good enough to improve student's communicative competence. Many of them had some problems. These findings are presented in order to contribute to the development of the illustrations of English course materials which will be made in the future.
