프랑스 格言, 俗談에 관한 考察(I) = A Study of the Oldsayings and Proverbs of French

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this treatise is collecting the oldsayings and proverbs of French and after that surveying them.
As the oldsayings and proverbs of Korea derived from Chinese writings or the sacred books, so did those of France come from the words of Greek or Latin classics or the Bible. The proverbs are the things which maintained the great thoughts of mankind and are common in every country of the world.
The proper oldsayings and proverbs of a country have close relationships with the life of the people. In them there are not a few expressions of vulgarity.
To know a people, however, the investigation of them is indispensable, because these are not the words by the philosophers but those inherited from the accumulated experience and knowledge through all the life of a people and they obviously show the nationality of the country.
Because such examination of the oldsayings and proverbs not only help us Know France, but also from them we can take great advantage by comparing and studing them with those of our country. I believe that they offer valuable data to those who are studying Korean literature as well as to those whom French literature is of interest.
Also we arranged French literary works of middle ages and other sources of old French sayings and proverbs, in the form of a dictionary and we examined them on a large scale.
