In order to know about the effect of the mitomycin C on the eye ball growth in developing chick embryo, author injected mitomycin 8ug or 16 ug/2m ℓ/egg into the chorioallantoic membrane of 1, 000 eggs on the 6th day after initial day of the incubation.
After then selected the 70 eggs per day among the incubated eggs at random from the 12th day to the 18th day with 48 hour intervals and brocked the incubated eggs in order to get the chick eye balls. The removed chick embryo eye balls were measured the weights with the Torsion balance and calculated the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variability, and the significant difference by the anayslis of variance.
After then, analyzed the growth factor, that is, the theoretical growth quantity, growth rate, specific growth rate and the ratio of the growth quantity by the growth formula utilizing the arithmetic mean of the actually measured eye ball weigfits, and the coefficients of relative growth rates of the mitomycin C injected groups to the control group on the developing chick eye balls by the relative growth formula.
The results obtained were summarized as follows;
1. Significant differences between the mean of the control group and injected groups, and between the 8 ug and 16ug injected groups were also significant at the 5 per cent level on the 12th day, and at the 0. 5 per cent level from the 14th day to the 18th day..
2. The differences between the arithmetic means of the actually measured eye balls weights and growth quantities calculated by the growth formula were below the 0.352% error.
3. Growth rates were decreased in the control group and 16,ug injected group which was severe compare to the control group, and increased in the 8 ug injected group.
4. Specific growth rates were decreased in all three groups and the decrease rates were severe in order, control, 16u.g and 8ug.
5. Growth gradients of injected groups were larger compare to control group, and growth centers of injected groups were in the 18th day.
6. Relative growth rates of the injected groups were positive allometry (a>l) compare to the control group and the 16ug injected group was more positive allometry than 8ug injected group.
