용수(龍樹)의 바이세시카 운동설 귀류 논파－『중송』 제2장 「관거래품」을 중심으로 = Nagarjuna’s Confutation by Logic of Reduction to Absurdity on the Movement Theory of Vaiśeṣika

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문의 목적은 용수가 「관거래품」에서 행했던 바이세시카 운동설에 대한 귀류 논파(歸謬論破)의 구체적인 내용을 파악해 보고자 하는 것이다. 논자는 그런 목적에 따라 우선 제II장에서 바이세시카의 범주론 가운데 「관거래품」의 운동 논파와 관련되어 있다고 생각되는 바이세시카의 운동설을 요약하여 정리하였다. 그런 후 논자는 제III장에서 「관거래품」에서 언급하는 ①지금 가고 있는 것, ②가는 자, ③가는 행위 가운데 ①과 ②를 바이세시카의 여섯 범주 가운데 실체로 ③을 운동으로 대체하면서, 제II장에서 정리한 바이세시카의 운동설 항목들을 「관거래품」 제3, 4, 19, 20송에 적용해 보았다.
그 결과 논자는 용수가 「관거래품」에서 행했던 바이세시카 운동설에 대한 귀류 논파의 구체적인 내용을 확인할 수 있었다. 요컨대 용수는 「관거래품」 제3, 4, 20송에서 바이세시카의 운동설에 따라 현실의 운동 현상을 설명하려고 하면, ①하나의 운동 현상에 두 개의 ‘가는 행위’가 있게 되는 불합리, ② ‘지금 가고 있는 것’과 ‘가는 행위’가 모두 비존재가 되는 불합리, ③ 바이세시카의 운동설 항목들이 양립 불가능하게 되는 불합리가 발생한다는 사실을 드러내어 바이세시카의 운동설을 논파하였던 것이다.
용수가 「관거래품」에서 바이세시카의 운동설을 귀류 논파했다고 해도, 그가 우리의 현실에서 발견되는 운동의 비존재를 주장했던 것은 아니다. 용수는 현실의 운동을 연기(緣起)인 것이라고 생각하였다. 그러나 그럴 경우에도 우리는 용수가 운동의 존재를 승인했다고 생각해서는 안된다. 왜냐하면 용수는 일체법이 연기, 무자성, 공, 가명, 중도인 것이라고 말하는데, 그의 중도 개념 속에는 비유비무(非有非無)의 의미가 포함되어 있기 때문이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to study specifically on the contents of Nagarjuna’s confutation by logic of reduction to absurdity on the movement theory of Vaiśeṣika, which are included in the Chapter of “Reviewing on Going and Coming”, the second chapter of Mūlamadhyamaka-kārikā.
Following such purpose, this writer arranged the movement theory of Vaiśeṣika into eight items, which is thought to be related to the confutation from the Chapter of “Reviewing on Going and Coming”. Then this writer has applied the movement theory of Vaiśeṣika to the third, fourth, nineteenth, and twentieth verses from the Chapter of “Reviewing on Going and Coming”, while replacing ‘that which is going now’ and ‘the going one’ with ‘substance’, the ‘going action’ with ‘action’.
As a result, this writer got to know the specific contents of Nagarjuna’s confutation by logic of reduction to absurdity on the movement theory of Vaiśeṣika, which Nāgārjuna used in the Chapter of “Reviewing on Going and Coming”. In short, Nāgārjuna confuted by logic of reduction to absurdity the movement theory of Vaiśeṣika in the third, fourth, and twentieth verses of the Chapter of “Reviewing on Going and Coming”, by uncovering the arising of absurdities, when explaining movement phenomenon in reality by the theory of Vaiśeṣika: ① absurdity of two going actions for one movement phenomenon, ② absurdity of non-existence of both that ‘which is going now’ and ‘going action’, ③ absurdity of incompatibility among items constituting the movement theory of Vaiśeṣika
