Cyber Home Learning system currently available at the homepages of municipal and provincial education offices is to be renovated, beginning with the contents for first grade of middle school students according to the revised 7th National Curriculum from 2010. For this, Korean Education Research Institute of Seoul National University is in charge of content development of Korean subject for the first grade of middle school students of 2009 Cyber Home Learning System.
For contents development, the current research first examined the direction of 2007 Korean curriculum revision. The revised curriculum emphasizes actual discourses most, and calls for a language education in the context of discourse. As a result, acceptance and production of actual discourses in the control of contexts constitutes accomplishment criteria of the curriculum. On the other hand, the revised curriculum expands media related contents corresponding to the changes of language in use and its environment.
On the basis of the analysis above, the current research confirmed accomplishment criteria and content elements of Korean subject and established development direction of contents for Korean subject accordingly, planning Cyber Home Learning System with storytelling method and narrative. This approach is based on the emphasis on context in the revised curriculum and its general language educational viewpoint. Through this, learners will be able to discover and inquire problems in the everyday language of theirs. In addition, the Cyber Home Learning System will be implemented so as to aim at integration among each area while focusing on unique learning contents of six subordinate areas of Korean subject.
From the coming year, authorized textbooks in stead of government designated textbooks will be introduced according to the revised Korean curriculum. Currently, 23 textbooks for the first grade of middle school have passed authorization. Korean Education Research Institute of Seoul National University obtained five among them and analyzed their learning goals by chapter and content elements in accordance with the revised curriculum. The five textbooks all distinguished in terms of format, material, area, accomplishment criteria and the order of contents. Learners and teachers are likely to bear more burdens of confusion from various contents of Korean subject and increase in purchase of reference books. Accordingly, Cyber Home Learning System of Korean subject will function as supplementing side effects of appearance of various textbooks by comprehensively analyzing the authorized textbooks and abstracting essential contents on the basis of accomplishment criteria of the revised curriculum.
