Oksan Seowon in Gyeongju was built in the early days of the Joseon Dynasty when the Seowon system was introduced, and was preserved even when the original temple of Daewon-gun was destroyed. Oksanseowon has served as a Suwon in the Gyeongju area since its establishment. In general, the status of the seowon was based on the status of the ancestral person and the presence or absence of private money, and the socio-political function, the economic base, and the publishing and library functions were combined. Oksanseowon's status as a Suwon in the Gyeongju region remained unchanged as these factors interacted with each other in different periods.
Oksan Seowon was a scholar dedicated to Lee Eon-jeok, the Daehyun of Munmyojongsa, and it became a private residence immediately after its establishment, and had a status comparable to that of national studies. As a result, from the time of its establishment, there has been active support from Gyeongju Buyun and other descendants and literary literaries. Oksan Seowon, which preserved buildings and books intact during the Imjin War, was located as an educational institution representing the Gyeongju area after the war. Since the middle of the 17th century, it has been positioned as the center of education for larvae while reinforcing lectures such as Geojae and Geojeop. At that time, even though the party was intensifying, the scholar Lee Eon-ji was a person who had nothing to do with the party, and the direction of the operation of the seowon was also separated from the party, and many people regardless of party were visited. As local government visits continued, the social status of Oksan Seowon was improved. However, from the 18th century, the influence of the southern part of Gyeongju was lost without being involved in the disputes between the elderly and the new and old in the village society.
In addition, as the construction of the Munjung Seowon began in earnest, difficulties in operating the Seowon occurred due to the departure of crude oils participating in the Seowon operation. Therefore, various measures were attempted, such as enacting various regulations and expanding the selection range of senior directors to Bunam, but did not significantly improve. In the meantime, the king's interest in the science of Yieonjeok grew after the throne of King Jeongjo. As a result, the government resumed, which had been cut off after the artificial rebellion, and the status of Oksan Seowon was improved as the sergeant of books continued, and it was positioned as two major Seowons in Yeongnam along with Dosan Seowon. However, in the 19th century, as the difficulty of operating the scholarship intensified, the selection of directors expanded to the province, and the participation of the descendants in the scholarship also increased.
In the meantime, the finances of the Seowon deteriorated due to the fire of Guindang in 1839 (the 5th year of King Heonjong), but the status of the Seowon was re-established as the rehabilitation amount and the remedy under the king's special order were held. After that, Gyeongju Bu-yoon was scolded by the director, and he received great help in the operation of the Seowon. However, after the middle of the 19th century, a dispute occurred with Gyeongju Son, the core family of the Seowon operation, and after the mid-19th century, the Sons completely departed from Oksan Seowon. Furthermore, the dispute over the communication between new hyangs and senior officers has intensified. However, as Daewon-gun was preserved in the ruins of the original material, its status rose even further, leading the opposition to the cloning reform in 1884 (Gojong 21).
