태국어의 □□□/짝/과 □□□/틍/의 문법화 = A Study on Grammaticalization of /cak/ and /theung/ in Thai

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this article is to analyze the Thai multi-function words /cak/ and /thueng/ in aspect of their word-class, because the analysis of these two words appeared in the former studies are controversial. The problematic analysis is that /cak/ and /thueng/ are considered to belong to the preposition word-class, following the criteria that the preposition cannot co-occur with the negative word /mai/. The contradictory argue is that the subsidiary verbs cannot co-occur with the negative word /mai/ as well as the preposition. So the new criteria which can be used specifically for these two words should be suggested. In this article, the function of /cak/ and /thueng/ are analyzed in two aspects, the grammatical condition and the semantic condition. The study results are as followings : a) their appearance in the locative phrase shows their grammaticalization, then the prepositions /cak/ and /thueng/ have derived from verb ; (b) their appearance in the verb phrase shows that they are the verbs. This article suggests the clear definition of preposition and also the future direction of analyses on the other Thai multi-function words.
