재한 몽골 유학생의 중도 탈락 경험에 관한 질적 연구 = A Qualitative Study on the Experience of Mongolian Students’ Dropout from the College in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 한국 고등교육 기관에서 교육을 이수하고 있는 유학생들의 중도 탈락 현상의 원인을 심층적으로 분석하기 위함에 있다. 이를 위하여 Tinto(1975)의 상호작용 모형을 이론적 분석틀로 활용하여 5명의 연구참여자들의 면담을 분석하였다. 연구 참여자들의 중도탈락은 학업적, 사회적 통합의 어려움으로부터 비롯되고 있는데, 구체적으로 어떠한 어려움이 있었는지, 어떠한 경험과 부적응이 학생의 중도 탈락의 결정적 계기가 되는지를 살펴보았다. 이 결과, 본국에서보다 현저하게 낮아진 자신의 학업 성취 결과를 감수하기, 상호작용의 부재로 인한 고립감, 한국어 장벽 외에도 느껴지는 영어 장벽, 취직 관련 희망이 없는 유학 생활이라는 인식 등이 중도탈락을 하게 되는 결정적 원인이 되고 있었다. 이러한 측면에서 봤을 때 중도 탈락에 관한 결정은 자의적 결정이라고만 간주하기는 어렵다. 대학, 사회, 유학생의 미래 진로 등에 대한 성공적인 연결 고리가 유기적으로 이어질 때, 유학생은 안정적인 학업 생활을 계속해갈 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to analyze in depth the phenomenon of withdrawal of international students who are studying at Korean higher education institutions. For this purpose, the interviews of five research participants were analyzed using Tinto (1975) s interaction model as a theoretical framework. We have examined the specific difficulties, and how experience and maladjustment are crucial factors for the dropout of students. As a result, it was found out that Mongolian students who had failed in their studies due to uncertainty about their studies and distrust of the university experienced a dropout. In addition As a result of the research, it was the decisive cause of dropping out due to low academic achievement results, lack of interaction, isolation, English barrier and difficulty in finding a job. From this point of view, it is hard to dismiss the decision to drop out as a very arbitrary decision. When successful links to universities, societies, and the future course of international students go hand in hand, international students will be able to continue their stable academic life with the recognition that they will successfully complete their studies.
