지역주의 성향의 투표행태 속에서 계층투표의 등장 가능성:2012년과 2022년 대통령 선거 비교 = The possibility of the emergence of class voting in regionalistic voting behavior: A comparison of the 2012 and 2022 presidential elections

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the feasibility of class voting based on the ownership of residential assets and income in the presidential elections in Korea. While voting behaviors in Korean electoral politics have traditionally exhibited strong regionalist tendencies and age effects, class voting has not received much attention from researchers. However, considering the potential for social stratification based on ownership of residential assets and the proportion of residential assets in individuals' total assets in Korea, it can be presumed that there is a considerable likelihood of class voting centered around ownership of residential assets.
To this end, the study conducted a unit-level analysis based on census data for the presidential elections in 2012 and 2022. The analysis revealed that while ownership of residential assets and income did not statistically influence candidates' vote shares in the 2012 election, it did have a statistically significant impact on candidates' vote shares in the 2022 election. These results suggest, albeit to a limited extent, that the previously elusive phenomenon of class voting in Korea may be occurring based on ownership of residential assets and income.
