영화《쉰들러 리스트(Schindler`s List)》에 나타난 `문명`의 의미 재고―프로이트의 정신분석학을 중심으로― = Reconsideration of the meaning of `Civilization` within the movie < Schindler`s List >: Based on the Psychoanalysis of Sigmund Freud

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 프로이트의 문화이론을 바탕으로 영화《쉰들러 리스트》에서 나타난 제2차 세계대전 당시의 병리적인 현상에 관하여 분석해보고자 한다. 영화《쉰들러 리스트》는 홀로코스트라는 주제를 다룬 대표적인 작품으로서 유대인에 대한 나치 전범들의 반인륜적인 죄악을 사실적으로 담아내고 있다. 주지하듯 나치 전범들은 인종차별적인 민족 공동체를 희망하며 유대인에 대한 비정상적인 광기와 증오심을 드러냈다. 프로이트는 이러한 현상에 대한 근본적인 원인으로 인간의 본능을 제시하였고, 이를 크게 공격성의 본능과 에로스적 본능으로 나누어 설명하고 있다. 나치 전범들은 반유대주의라는 이데올로기 속에서 나치즘이라는 하나의 문명을 형성하였다. 그리고 그들은 나치즘을 하나의 완벽한 문명으로 만들기 위해서 유대인에 대한 생물학적이고 문화적인 기준들을 인위적으로 조작하였다. 이는 자신들이 이룩한 문명에 대한 자기애적(自己愛) 성격을 표출하는 행위로서 유대인 학살에 대한 타당성을 부여한다. 때문에 나치즘이라는 문명은 유대인에 대한 학살을 용인했다는 점에서 문명의 발달을 경험하지 못한 원시인의 상태로 퇴행했다고 할 수 있다. 아울러 나치 전범들이 유대인을 학살하는 과정에서도 그 어떠한 죄책감을 느끼지 못했던 까닭은, 반유대주의로 형성된 공동체에 완전히 동화되어 자신의 내적 자아를 상실했기 때문이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper will analyze the pathological phenomenon which has appeared in the movie `Schindler`s List` since the Second World War. And the basis of analysis will be the cultural theory of Sigmund Freud. As everyone knows, during the Second World War, Nazi war criminals hoped to create an ethnic community based on racism, by revealing abnormal hatred, madness, indiscriminately towards the Jewish. Freud suggests that the fundamental reason of this phenomenon is caused by the human instinct, which is explained in two ways; the instinct of aggression and the instinct of Eros. During the World War Ⅱ, the Nazi war criminals created a civilization which is Nazism under the Anti-Jewish ideology. To create the Nazism as a perfect civilization, they have artificially manipulated to view the cultural standards and eugenic facts of Jewish as inferior. By expressing their Narcissistic attitude towards their civilization, it has granted validity of slaughtering the Jews. Therefore, it could be explained that as Nazism has tolerated the slaughter of Jews and this has degenerated the civilization into the stage of primitive men which has not experienced the development of civilization. In addition, the reason why the Nazi war criminals had not felt any guilt during the holocaust is because they have been totally assimilated with the Anti-Jewish based community and have lost their inner self.
