In the crash environment, the safety analysis becomes very essential wi th the growth of automobile industry. Therefore. an airbag system is required to protect the occupant. The exact effects of an airbag can be evaluated from the barrier or sled test which is
quite expensive. In this study. the airbag system in a domestic passenger car is analyzed with the computer simulation program CAL3D. The modeling of a passenger car including an airbag is established and the results are verified by comparisons with real crash 'tests. A graphic post-processor is developed for the dynamic behavior of an
occupant. Some sensitive design parameters of an airbag are determined and design trends are recomended to minimize HIC(Head Injury Cri terion) wi th the orthogonal array of statistical methods.
