  This treatise was founded by the viewpoint that we have to study on the exchange between confucianism and buddhism in order to understand the current of thought in the transition of the period of D"ang and Sung. It only covered studying on the boundary of the theory of self-cultivation of confucianism and buddhism in Chu Xi"s view of buddhism. Particularly At that time, the theory of nought(空論) and the theory of enlightenment(見性成佛論) were important subject in Buddhism. Therefore, it revealed the connotation of the theory of nought and the theory of enlightenment in the theory of self-cultivation of buddhism. And through that, it revealed how Chu Xi was criticizing those and establishing new system of the theory of self-cultivation in confucianism. It means revealing how buddhism fulfiled it"s function in confucianism as confucianists introduced buddhism.
