일제 강점 초기 곡마단의 연행 양상 = A study on circus in 1910s

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 강점 초기 공연예술의 하나로 수용된 곡마단의 존재양상을 고찰했다. 곡마단의 유입 과정 고찰은 우리 공연예술사를 더욱 구체적으로 살펴볼 수 있는 기회를 제공할 것이다. 또한 근대적 공연물이 본격적으로 유입되면서 야기되는 공연문화의 변화를 이해하는 데 실증적인 배경 설명이 가능하다. 본고에서는 공연예술의 과도기 한축에 존재한 곡마단을 연대적으로 고찰했다. 강점 초기인 1910년대를 중심으로 곡마단의 역사적 경위와 내력에 대해 집중적으로 살펴보았다. 당시 신문기사와 각종 잡지, 일본의 언론 등을 조사하여, 조선에 유입된 곡마단의 정체와 공연내용, 성공여부, 곡마단에 대한 인식 등을 논의했다. 러시아와 일본 등 외국에서 온 곡마단이 궁중 공연을 시작으로 조선에 유입되었고, 공진회와 같은 박람회의 여흥으로 소개되면서 급속도로 입소문을 타기 시작해 인기를 구가했다. 러시아의 바로프스키 곡마단은 두 번의 공연을 가졌고, 첫 공연은 궁중에서 이루어졌다. 조선물산공진회에 참가한 곡마단은 높은 관람료에도 많은 관객을 유치하는 데 성공했다. 곡마단의 속성은 상당부분 오락성에 기인하지만, 일제 강점과 함께 들어온 곡마단의 외관은 ‘새로운 문물’로 포장되고 선전된 측면이 많다. 곡마단은 곡예집단이므로 본질적으로 전통연희집단과 더 유사성이 높지만, 스스로 신극을 자처하고 구극과 단절함으로써 신문물로 표상되는 기회를 얻었다. 곡마단의 유입 과정 연구는 곡마단 자체의 성쇠 과정을 살펴봄으로써 곡마단 자체의 성쇠를 비롯해, 전통적 유랑예인집단의 변모와 소멸, 새로운 공연문화의 이식과 적응 등을 고찰하는 데 실마리를 제공하여, 전통연희와의 관련성 연구의 前史라는 점에서 의의를 갖는다.

In this paper, I discussed the presence of aspects Circus housed in one of the performing arts of the early colonial period. Starting with the court performance, is introduced into the Korean, it is introduced as a sideshow of exposition such as resonant circuit, rumors began falling rapidly, Circus came from foreign countries such as Russia and Japan has enjoyed popularity. Barovsky Circus from Russia, with a performance of two times, and the first performance was performed at court.
