This study aims to record historical meanings of 'apartments with lower-floor stores' which was built in 1960-1970s and rediscover its importance as a type of modern residence. The 'apartments with lower-floor stores' is differentiated with other contemporary apartment types by its backgrounds, compositions, forms and so on. To prove these factors, this research has conducted dealing with processes and features of building planning. As a result, the 'apartments with lower-floor stores' is valuable to study as an experimental type which had built to maximize land-use efficiency combining stores and residences, even though it made people live in poor environment. Moreover, this reveals urban situations in those days through its visual features and has a potent influence on residential-commercial building today.
