a hydrogen atom from an unsaturated lipid,which initiates lipid peroxidation and liver damage and soplay significant roles in the pathogenesis of diseases(Brattin et al., 1985; Recknagel et al., 1991; Williams andBurk, 1990). Therefore, the suppression of CYP can resultin a reduction in the level of the reactive metabolites, andcorespondingly, less tissue injury. The metabolic activationof CCl4 is believed to be mediated through CYP2E1(Koop, 1992; Zangar et al., 20). These results supportthis hypothesis, in that there is a god correlation betweenthe lower CYP2E1 enzyme activities in the puerarin-treatedhepatic microsomes in vivo and in vitro, and the level ofProtective Effects of Puerarin on Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Hepatotoxicity 1315protection against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in mice
