Paul D. I. Kim. "A Study on The Cause of Persecution Which Was Suffered by Anabaptists." Berea Forum 1 (2007); 411~436. In this thesis, I tried to reveal the cause of persecution which was suffered by Anabaptists as three reasons: 1) Anabaptists' radical tendency, 2) Anabaptists' different ecclesiology which included their refusal of Infant Baptism and pursuit of Adult Believer's Baptism, 3) A social-political cause - Anabaptists' social doctrines. The part who persecuted Anabaptists generally pointed out the first cause as a main one and this has been written historically. The part who defended the persecuted Anabaptists indicated the second cause as a main one. Namely, they insist that Anabaptists suffered the persecution without reason because of their genuine faith. These two opinions are right at one view but these are self-centered and biased. There were some radical sects in Anabaptist movement evidently. However they were only minor and major sects were peaceful. Thus I think that the radical tendency of Anabaptist which the part who persecuted insisted is a superficial cause. And that Anabaptists suffered the persecution without reason means that Anabaptists had no faults. But as we saw before, there were radical sects evidently and they disregarded the social duty such as a military service and this was one reason for persecution. Therefore I think that the third cause which is more objective and reflects the social-political circumstances of the day is more persuasive. Because Reformation was on the way in whole Europe at that time, it was socially-politically unrest and people had no room in their mind. So they did not tolerate people who had a different religious opinion and oppressed them irrationally. The government of the day tried to sustain legally the only one church based on the political-philosophical principal of the day. The society of the day was not so developed to the extent of tolerating diversity.(M.Div, Berea International Theological Seminary;Church History)
