Pain is the most common, usually unpleasant and disabling condition about which so little is understood. Management of pain, particulary chronic pain, is a challenging subject in clinical medicine.
The physical therapist is accustomed to evaluating treatment results with a variety of objective clinical, physical, and functional tests. A complete medical history, including the patient’s chief complaint, etiology of pain, past and current activity levels, and previous responses to illness, is helpful in assessing the patient’s response to treatment.
The purpose of this article is to present a number of basic suggestions to guise the clinician and the physical therapist interested in application of the physical modalities for pain management program.
